St Andrews Day Suggestions?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I’m currently putting the finishing touches to the Autumn program and I still haven’t filled the 29th November, which just happens to be St Andrews day.

Now I don’t usually do Saints or Countries but I guess it would be nice to have someone appropriately Scottish for that evening.

However nobody springs to mind so how about some suggestions?

Bear in mind that all the really well known artists will have had this day booked for years!

Any thoughts?

Sammy’s Bar

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Here’s the rather strange and beguiling version of Cyril Tawny’s classic “Sammy’s Bar” that Kevin was talking about at the club last night.

Apparently it’s from “Flipping the Whale” (2000), written and directed by Sean Guinan, produced by Joshua Eckhardt and Sean Guinan. With Eddie Shin (Gilmore Girls, Dr. Miracles), Amy Bakos and Sean Guinan. The song was written by Cyril Tawney and recorded by the Golden Ring, a short-lived Chicago folk group from the early 70s.

The Next Session – Tuesday 9th June

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

The next in our popular series of English Tune Sessions is this Tuesday the 9th June kicking off at around 8:00pm.

As always admission is free and the first part of the evening will be slow and easy for beginners and the less confident.

And there’s a raffle too!

Redbridge Green Fair – Friday 12th June

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

My Ceilidh band, currently known as The Upstreet Irregulars but maybe about to have a name change are playing this coming Friday the 12th at a concert as part of the Redbridge Green Fair Music festival.

We’re one of four acts that night and top of the bill just happens to be the wonderful Playing Rapunzel who are are guests at the club in a couple of weeks time, the 21st June to be precise.

It’s pretty much our first time playing to a listening audience rather than a dancing one so we’ve been practicing hard for this one!

It’s at Ilford Sports and Social Club, Cricklefield Stadium High Road Ilford IG1 1UE

Details at http://www.rgf.org.uk/musicfest.htm

Doors open at 7:30pm and I’ve no idea what the admission is!
