Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a booking?
In the first instance email firstname.lastname@example.org
We welcome approaches from artists looking for bookings but you should be aware that our main guests are generally well known and highly regarded established musicians and we only book lesser known artists under special circumstances (i.e. we think they are great!) If you are not an established artist your best course of action would be to come to the club and give us a floorspot (see below) and then speak to one of the organisers on the night or soon afterwards about the possibility of a booking.
You will also save yourself and us a lot of time if you take a few minutes to review the style of the music we book. Just because you have included a sample of a melodeon in your Drum and Bass / Jazz fusion album does not mean you fall under our definition of folk music regardless of what you put on your MySpace page.
Can I Sing or Play if I come to the club?
Regular MC Kevin Sheils
Certainly! We have a series of floorspots before each set by our main artist each week when members of the audience are welcome to perform. You can sing, play, recite a poem or even tell a story. Your material can be traditional, contemporary or self penned. It's a great opportunity to give your material some exposure or practice performing in front of an attentive audience. All we ask is you keep the length of your piece to a reasonable duration - four or five minutes at the most.
To get a floorspot just ask the MC on the day or at the front desk when you first come in.
Some weeks we can have more floorsingers than we have time for so if you are traveling a long distance or have an unusual setup you might want to email us first and we will see if we can reserve you a slot.
If you are in a group or are a semi-professional artist, perhaps on tour, will might be able to arrange an extended floorspot of three songs. Drop us a line at at email@example.com
Can I Join the Band?
Yes! Feel free to bring an instrument and sit in with our resident scratch band.
Can I buy tickets in advance?
In general we don't sell tickets in advance and operate a strict "first come first served" policy on the door so if you are traveling a long distance or want to come to what will obviously be a buys night make sure you turn up in good time.
We may very occasionally run a ticketed evening and if we do we'll post full details with plenty of advance notice on this website.
Do I have to be a member?
No - it used to be the case that people had to join the club at least 24 hours before they first attended but due to changes in the licensing laws membership is no longer necessary and you can simply show up on the night.
What counts as a Concession?
Anyone who is unwaged is eligible for our concessionary rate. This includes the unemployed, retired people, students, unwaged partners and drop-outs! However do remember that we are a voluntary organisation so if you can afford the full rate it all goes to help us improve the club.
How is access for the disabled?
Sadly disabled access at the Rose & Crown is not very good and is currently not suitable for wheelchair users.
However we are hopeful that ongoing development work will improve the situation in the near future.
