Walthamstow Folk at The Plough Inn, 173 Wood Street, Walthamstow, London E17 3NU

The Plough is rapidly becoming East London's leading live music venue. We are delighted to be a part of it's continuing plans to bring the best in live music to the community. It's also a comfortable and friendly pub with some of the best Fullers real ale in London! It's about a quarter of a mile from our old home at the Old Rose & Crown in Hoe Street.

The pub has it's own website at http://www.theploughinne17.co.uk

How to get to the Plough Inn

The Plough Inn is on Wood Street directly opposite the main entrance to Wood Street Station.

If driving there is a car park behind the pub and there are no major restrictions on street parking in the local area on Sunday nights.

By Train

Wood Street is on the national rail Liverpool Street to Chingford line and takes 17 minutes. This is the fastest route if you are coming from Central London and are near to Liverpool Street. Trains depart Liverpool Street at 15 minute intervals until 1900 then on the hour and half hour so suitable times for getting to the club would be:

18:30 arrives 18:47
18:45 arrives 19:02
19:00 arrives 19.17 then half hourly

Check with national rail for times at intermediate stations, the line calls at Bethnal Green, Hackney Downs, Clapton, St James Street and Walthamstow Central before Wood Street.

After the club which usually finishes around 22:30-22:35 trains return to town at 22:48 and 23:18 both link 2 minutes later at Walthamstow Central in plenty of time for the Underground. Also buses as detailed below will take you to the Underground, if preferred.

By Tube

If the Underground is more convenient then the closest station is Walthamstow Central on the Victoria Line which is just over half a mile from the Plough Inn but there are a number of options to get from the Central to the Plough by public transport. You can connect with the trains as detailed above where the one stop journey to Wood Street takes 2 minutes, connections are at 00, 15, 20 and 45 past the hour until 19:15 then half hourly.

Alternatively you can catch a bus from the Bus station opposite the tube, the 230 takes you directly to the pub in about 10 minutes and is frequent on Sundays (about every 12 minutes) but there are also other buses from the Central (see below) that will take you to either end of Wood Street which are about 5 minutes walk from the Plough, the 230 runs back to Walthamstow Central until just after midnight.

If you are on the Central Line then there is also a direct bus to Wood Street from Leytonstone Station. The W16 takes less than 15 minutes from Leytonstone to Wood Street station and again the return buses run until after midnight.

Buses

Apart from the 230 and W16 mentioned above which stop at Wood Street Station there are a number of buses that stop within 5 minutes walk of the Plough Inn at each end of Wood Street. Buses marked with a * link from Walthamstow Central.

At the North end of Wood Street (Corner with Forest Road):

123, 212* and 275*

At the South end of Wood Street (Whipps Cross Roundabout end of Lea Bridge Road)

20*, 56, 257*, 357*, W12*, W15* also night bus N55 goes back into town

If catching a bus at Walthamstow Bus station make sure that the bus is heading towards Wood Street, Whipps Cross or Forest Road as stops in the Bus station serve both directions of travel
